Oscars 2016: 20 Biggest Best Film Contenders

12. Creed

Rocky seemed like an unlikely Best Picture winner in 1977, however the quintessential underdog story left the ceremony with three prizes, including a big win over such huge films as Taxi Driver, All The President's Men and Network. Nearly four decades later, Sylvester Stallone's iconic boxer is back in the awards mix with Creed, which sees Rocky Balboa taking a backseat as he coaches Michael B Jordan as the son of his old nemesis, Apollo Creed. Since its Stateside release last month, Creed has amassed dozens of rave reviews, with awards buzz now surrounding both of the central performers as well as Fruitvale Station director Ryan Coogler. It would be the perfect underdog story if Creed were to follow its predecessor and climb the Oscars mountain.
