9. Steve Jobs
What is it? Biopic of late Apple founder Steve Jobs (Michael Fassbender), set over the course of three days, and three separate iconic product launches. Why is it a major player? Check inspirational, biography, obsessive artist, actor-led and character-driven off the list - Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs has it all. It's been one of the most turbulent projects of recent times (director David Fincher and stars Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio all bailed while Sony was going into meltdown), but now it's back on track it looks like one of the most sure-fire bets of awards season 2016. Certain Best Actor nominee Fassbender aside (the actor, along with Macbeth and Jobs, also has Derek Cianfrance's The Light Between Oceans and crime drama Trespass Against Us coming this year, so it'll seem like a conspiracy if he isn't up for something), you also have Oscar winner Danny Boyle directing and Aaron Sorkin writing, his script being one of the hottest properties in circulation for some time. Don't rule out Seth Rogen - a comedian going dramatic - or Kate Winslet for acting nominations here either.
