Oscars 2017: 8 Things The Academy Screwed Up

6. They Killed The Wrong Person

What Happened

It's not just in the awards that they goofed: during the “In Memoriam” segment, The Academy included a tribute to costume designer and four-time nominee Janet Patterson — but ran a photo of the very-much-still-alive Australian producer Jan Chapman by mistake.

And then they failed to acknowledge Alexis Arquette's death, at a time when trans rights are a hot topic (or should be) across America. That doesn't look like an oversight as much as a f*ck up.

What Should Have Happened

Well, using the right image would be a start, considering how Jan Chapman must now feel. And there's no real excuse for not including Arquette, when she was in a considerable number of films (more than 700) - many of which were Oscar nominated.
