Oscars 2017: 8 Ups And 6 Downs
1. The Best Picture Gaffe
This isn't so much about the fact that Moonlight beat La La Land (kidding, it totally is, and I'm still bitter about it), but rather the fact that this gaffe happened at all.
The finger of blame has been pointed all over the place, from Warren Beatty to Faye Dunaway to Leonard0 Di Caprio, with accounting firm PWC eventually claiming responsibility and issuing an apology. It's bad enough the wrong envelope was handed to Beatty. It's even worse that he and Dunaway then read it out anyway. But you'd think that someone, upon hearing "La La Land" being announced the winner, would've stepped in before they got on stage and were well into their acceptance speech.
It was cruel on La La Land, who had their big moment snatched away, and wasn't great for Moonlight either, who deserved to have the spotlight all on them to celebrate their unexpected victory. Instead it's been overshadowed by this farce, which is one of the biggest in Oscar history. Thankfully Jordan Horowitz was on-hand to establish some semblance of order, otherwise it might've been even worse.
