Only twice in the last 10 years has this award gone to a movie outside of Disney or PIxar: 2006's Happy Feet and 2011's Rango.

It's unlikely to happen again, with Pixar and Disney set to claim 3 of the 5 nominations between them. Studio Ghibli and Laika, two animation studios long producing some stunning work, should be in the mix as well, while My Life As A Zucchini represents the best chance of a surprise (though the Academy recognising something as out-there as Sausage Party would be interesting too).
