Another of the categories where the blockbusters are guaranteed to get a lot of love, due to them having the biggest budgets and subsequently able to produce better effects. It can throw up the odd surprise too though, such as Ex Machina coming out on top last year over behemoths like The Force Awakens and Mad Max. It's unlikely to happen again here however, unless Kubo and the Two Strings can get a rare nomination for an animated film.

This is shaping up to be a three-way battle for the win, between the stunning work on Doctor Strange, the technological advancements of The Jungle Book, and the (slightly controversial) recreations in Rogue One.
