What It Deserved: Best Actress

After its premiere at Sundance around a year ago, there was talk of Toni Collette being firmly in the Best Actress race. Sure, the movie as a whole would be way too out there for voters, but her performance was undeniably excellent. When the film had its wide-release a few months later, it was difficult to argue with that assessment.

And yet there's been little mention of Collette throughout awards season, with a few critics' awards nominations but little else. There wasn't much of a campaign, and by the time of the nominations most fans had given up on it having even an outside chance of happening, but that doesn't totally take the sting out of it.

Collette goes all in playing Annie. It's a career-best performance, and one that sees her do just about everything possible. She runs the full gamut of emotions, delivering a true tour de force as we witness Annie's breakdown and feel every single bit of horror that she experiences throughout the movie. It's a blistering turn, and Collette never once lets up, taking the essence of a scream of pure horror and turning it into horror acting at its finest.

Which movies do you think should've been nominated for the Oscars this year? Let us know down in the comments.
