Who Should Win: The One and Only Ivan

The fact that so many blockbusters were pushed out of 2020 makes this year's pickings pretty thin and uninteresting, though the eye-wateringly lifelike animal effects in Disney's The One and Only Ivan are an absolute marvel to behold - especially in 4K on Disney+.

Who Will Win: Tenet

Though Tenet's mostly-practical presentation makes it tough to actually appreciate what is and isn't a digital visual effect, some of its more mind-boggling, physics-defying moments are clearly sublime feats of VFX wizardry that can't be ignored.

Regardless of what you might make of the movie itself, its towering technical craft is unmistakable.
