Oscars 2022 Review: 7 Ups & 8 Downs
6. Riz Ahmed Is Now An Oscar Winner
Riz Ahmed may not have won the Best Actor Oscar he was nominated for last year (for his work on Sound of Metal), but he won his first Academy Award this time for co-writing and starring in The Long Goodbye, which won the Best Live-Action Short film Oscar.
Though short films starring A-list actors always have a natural advantage in this category, it's a well-earned win for a film that draws shocking attention to a divided modern Britain.
Ahmed's classy speech, calling for greater inclusion and unity, was a welcome cherry on top. Hopefully we'll see him competing for acting Oscars again soon enough, though.
