Oscars 2023: Final Predictions In Every Category
17. Best Cinematography
NOMINEES:
All Quiet on the Western Front
Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths
Elvis
Empire of Light
Tár
What Should Win:
All Quiet on the Western Front
The Academy truly whiffed the Best Cinematography category this year, snubbing a number of worthy candidates like Avatar: The Way of Water, The Batman, and Top Gun: Maverick, but James Friend's sublime lensing on Netflix's All Quiet on the Western Front remake is tough to argue with.
What Will Win:
All Quiet on the Western Front
Again, it's a soft year for the field, so don't expect Roger Deakins to take home another win for one of his lesser lensing gigs in recent years.
Bardo is too divisive to gain much traction, Elvis is lucky to even be nominated, and Tár is really the only remotely worthy challenger, but even then, not really.
The operatic war epic should take this win with ease.
