Oscars 2024 Review: 10 Ups & 6 Downs
5. The Humour (Mostly) Worked
The Oscars' desire to inject humour into proceedings is typically a mixed bag, with its tendency towards excessively broad, skit-based comedy that clearly hasn't been rehearsed much often falling flat.
And while this year's show wasn't without its clunker gags, the hit rate was actually impressively high for the most part.
Some of the more memorable comedic interludes include Kate McKinnon joking about sending "tasteful nudes" to Steven Spielberg, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito calling out fellow Batman alum Michael Keaton, and John Mulaney ripping Madame Web a new one.
Best of all, though? John Cena presenting the Best Costume Design Oscar semi-nude, because why the hell not?
