Oscars: Every Best Picture Winner Ever Ranked From Worst To Best

39. The Sting (1973)

The Sting is often forgotten about in the annals of Oscar history due to winning Best Picture in-between the first two Godfather movies, which would frankly make any movie look meek by comparison.

It also beat out The Exorcist for Best Picture, underlining the Academy's historic prejudice against horror, but it is nevertheless a ludicrously entertaining froth-piece shot through by the easy chemistry between Paul Newman and Robert Redford.

It doesn't exactly linger in the mind like some of the better movies on this list, but it is a ton of fun while you're watching it, the performances are magnetic and it basically typifies star-driven entertainment at its best, such trivialities as "substance" be-damned.
