OUTLANDER gets dumped!

Viking/alien movie starring Jim Caviezel, Ron Perlman & John Hurt going STV?

Note to writers - don't bother pitching any more viking movies to studio's. After Pathfinder's abysmal $30 million worldwide taking last year from a $45 million budget, we have wondered just how The Weinstein's would handle their similarly titled viking film Outlander. Despite having a better premise involving the always juicy addition of aliens to the genre and a couple of bigger names, this one has always been troubling to the Weinsteins who have never given the movie a firm release date despite it being completed months and months ago. Now sadly the word is the movie that was made for $47 million could be heading straight to DVD on November 18th, though an unofficial fansite for Outlander say it's contractually obliged to receive a release, no matter how limited that might be.

We await some kind of official annoucement on this one. Shame, because he had been tracking it for well over a year, hopeful that with it's impressive cast consisting of Jim Caviezel, Ron Perlman and John Hurt among others that this one had a real chance. Though I was never all that keen on the trailer...

The movie is a collaboration between Howard McCain and Dirk Blackman who both wrote the script, with McCain directing the film. They have recently sold their Conan script to Millenium Films and will no doubt be hoping Outlander gets some kind of release, otherwise they will have a big DUD on their CV. source - /film, dark horizons
