Owen Wilson: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

And 5 That Sucked...

5. Marmaduke - Marmaduke (2010)

Was a feature-length version of a long-running comic strip about a Great Dane ever a good idea? The answer of course is no, yet somehow someone managed to convince Owen Wilson to get on board to lend his voice to this humungous canine. The star's usual appeal nowhere to be found in this movie, lost somewhere between the hulking, gormless lips of Marmaduke the dog. Totally bereft of any sort of charm needed to make this genre work, Marmaduke is dismal both in plot and on a technical level. It's easy to see why Wilson was chosen, as the star provides the same sort of cheeky bravado that the writers wanted their lead character to have. But anyone might have played Marmaduke - with his awful mouth movements so distracting that it's impossible to fully engage with anything that the dog is saying. What's worse, he never shuts up, so all the viewer is left with is a profoundly irritating experience. Wilson was a delight as the loyal owner of a dog in Marley & Me, but being cast as a canine himself in Marmaduke makes for an excruciating watch.
