Pacific Rim 2 Hires Jurassic World Writer

Will the monster magic rub off?

Despite some fairly well-placed fears that Pacific Rim 2 might never happen, it seems it's full steam ahead on the sequel to Guillermo Del Toro's monster sci-fi.

Daredevil's Steven DeKnight is already on board to direct the sequel and now The Hollywood Reporter are saying that Derek Connolly - who co-wrote Jurassic World - has been enlisted to work on the script. Del Toro, meanwhile, will produce.

So far, drafts for the mechas v monsters tale have been turned in by Del Toro, Zak Penn and Jon Spaihts, and plot details are a little hard to come by. At one point it would have been set in the future of the original movie when Jaegars have become a regular thing. Well, as regular as gigantic monster-fighting robots can get.

Connolly already has previous working on monster flicks and sci-fi, having scribed the excellent Safety Not Guaranteed, and Jurassic World and its forthcoming sequel. He's also been involved on Kong: Skull Island, so he has about as broad an experience of the genre as anyone's likely to get these days.
