Pacific Rim: Uprising Review - 3 Ups & 7 Downs

6. Not Enough Kaiju

What do you expect to see in a Pacific Rim movie? A bunch of robots wrestling a bunch of Godzilla-like monsters, right? Well, Uprising has got news for you. Due to a plot development which introduces an additional villain-type, the traditional Kaiju are left on the sidelines for about 75% of the movie. Yup.

Sure, they make one hell of an impact when they finally show up, but you'll be left wanting for almost 90 minutes. In the mean-time, the Jaeger-on-Jaeger action just can't fill the void, and the overall attempt to expand the series' mythology by bridging the gap between Jaeger and Kaiju ultimately falls quite flat.
