Pacific Rim Vs. Transformers - Which Is Better?

2. As Films

Pacific Rim Transformers
Paramount Pictures

Let’s be blunt, one is directed by Michael Bay, and one is directed by Guillermo Del Toro. In filmic terms, it’s like pitting Sharknado: Oh Hell No against Jaws. That’s not to say all shark films aren’t great, just one clearly has a bit of extra bite. Bay is blood in the water. You know where I’m going with this fin-ale...

Tastes vary and the films are offering two very different sci-fi universes, with one rife in explosive action and playing on the nostalgia of our youth, and the other a visionary experience that subverts genre expectation with nuanced characters and development.

Pacific Rim on the whole knows what it is and what it wants to achieve much more clearly than the tonally confused Transformers, and relays it in a much easier to watch fashion than the mangled metallic messes of Michael Bay’s mind that appear in sloppy fight scenes.
