Patty Jenkins Exits THOR 2 Over 'Creative Differences', New Director Needed

Strange things goings on at Marvel regarding the sequel to Kenneth Branagh's Thor, specifically that they can't keep a director interested long enough to actually make the damn thing. Once Branagh said he wouldn't return for Thor 2, Marvel swiftly made two controversial hirings, both that did little to warm the hearts of fanboys. First, rookie Game of Thrones t.v. helmer Brian Kirk who was attached just about long enough for a cup of coffee before deciding it wasn't for him, then the totally baffling hiring of Monster director Patty Jenkins that confused everyone. She hadn't helmed a movie in eight years and there was nothing about her work that seemed to fit a Marvel superhero movie. Deadline reports today that after two months of being attached Jenkins has exited Thor 2 citing "creative differences" (maybe Marvel realised they had made a mistake??) and the scramble is on to find a replacement with shooting to begin next year for a release November 2013. Reading between the lines, Jenkins has left because of the difficulty making a sequel to someone elses film as Deadline say Marvel are expected to place her on the first film of a new superhero saga. I have no clue what that will end up being however. Whilst I'm sure many will be relieved Jenkins is gone.... don't get your hopes up too quickly that Marvel will pull an auteur out of the hat like Darren Aronofsky or Guillermo del Toro or any of the other names we suggested earlier. Marvel are notorious for paying pittance to their talent so it won't be a big name and when a director leaves a project so soon before filming leaving a studio having to put out feelers out with agencies to see who is available to direct with only a few months short notice, usually the shortlist of candidates is just that.. a very short list. This is usually the time when a hack somebody like Brett Ratner (X-Men 3: The Last Stand) leeches himself onto a project or some t.v. helmer that nobody has ever heard of or a director brought out of the wilderness. Wait... they've already done that with Kirk and Jenkins. Lord knows who they will hire now then. Basically it's whoever is available and Marvel won't be able to be picky. Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston have already agreed to return for Thor 2 and have kept schedules free next year for the sequel which Marvel decided to make first over a Captain America follow-up.
