Paul Rudd: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 That Sucked

1. Peter Klaven - I Love You, Man (2009)

Really, though, you can't get better than Rudd as his dorky, endearing best. His ultimate charming slacker role has to be Peter Klaven in I Love You, Man, the €œbromantic comedy€ where his groom-to-be realises he has no male friends to make his Best Man. Thus begins the search for a BFF, full of awkward man-dates and mixed signals. A lot of the time Jason Segel threatens to steal the spotlight as Syndey, the prospective pal who the actor based on his experiences working with Russell Brand on Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but Rudd's beleaguered everyman remains the star. Especially when he starts playing prog rock band Rush around the house and playing unconvincing air bass. There's plenty of genius, hilarious tics like that €“ Peter's inability to come up with suitable nicknames on the fly when parting ways is a rich comedic vein €“ but there's also a believable, dramatic warmth to his loneliness, his search for a male best friend, and his relationship troubles with fiancee Zooey (Rashida Jones). Mainly it's the Rush stuff though. Even better: when Segel and Rudd reprised their roles for a Funny Or Die video where they actually got to go backstage with the band.
