Peter Segal still attached to CAPTAIN MARVEL

Similar to the deal star Steve Carell just secured at Warner Bros, his director on GET SMART, Peter Segal has just signed up to a lucrative three picture deal with the studio. He has also taken his producing partner Michael Ewing with him, the duo last worked together on THE LONGEST YARD remake. The biggest project on their upcoming lists is CAPTAIN MARVEL, the DC Comics property that Segal had tried to make two years ago at the now bust New Line, based on a screenplay by John August (CHARLIE'S ANGELS, BIG FISH). Although the role of Marvel has yet to be cast, Segal has let his intentions be known that he wishes to secure Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (who appeared in GET SMART) to play the villainous Black Adam. But that won't be the first movie from the deal. Instead Variety report that Segel will first direct LIAM MCBAIN: INTERNATIONAL TENNIS STAR AND PROPER ENGLISH GEEZER that follows the rise, fall and ultimate redemption of a fictional British tennis star of the '80s. It has been written by Chip Hall, a writer from King of the Hill. Wow, what a title huh? Good to know CAPTAIN MARVEL is still in the works, or SHAZAM, whatever title they eventually go with.
