Peter Webber directing Barbarella remake

barbarella.jpgI have to say it's been a very strange weekend for movie news. I'm half expecting that a women might get cast as Harvey Dent tomorrow the way things are going. Variety are reporting that Hannibal Rising director Peter Webber has signed on to helm a modern day updated version of the erotic 60's sci-fi movie Barbarella. The movie is being described as "Female James Bond -- in outer space" by producer Dino De Laurentiis, who also brought the Jane Fonda 1968 original to the big screen. Bizarre. Really, really bizarre. The first movie was totally ridiculous and was unintentially laughable, so I guess no-one will be pissed over the "raping of a classic" here. Whichever actress decides to board this disaster waiting to happen would really be risking their career. Peter Webber directing is such a strange choice. This movie couldn't be further away from the subject matter of his previous movies Hannibal Rising and Girl with a Pearl Earring. Like I say, bizarre. source - coming soon, variety
