Pixar: Ranking Every Upcoming Film By Anticipation

Sequels, dinosaurs and Dia de los Muertos. What's not to love?

The Good Dinosaur
Pixar

For over two decades, Pixar has effortlessly bounced between films about bugs, toys, monsters, superheroes, rats and even the emotions inside our very own heads, proving that they can take any idea and spin it in to gold, perpetually striking a chord with critics and audiences alike.

With their fifteenth film, Inside Out, having released earlier this summer to massive critical and commercial success, Pixar proved yet again that they are still at the top of their game after all these years. Between their ability to infuse every story with heart, the clear passion that shines through down to the smallest of details and their refusal to annually flood the market with their films, Pixar has ensured that each and every one is something fans the world over can look forward to when they arrive.

This November, their sixteenth film, The Good Dinosaur, will hit theaters, marking the first time in the company's history that they have released more than one film in a single year. Over the next few years beyond that, Pixar has also lined up sequels to some of their most popular films, along with at least one confirmed new property, bringing some of their beloved characters back for more while undoubtedly introducing new ones who will win over people's hearts like the characters in Inside Out.

In advance of The Good Dinosaur's arrival, let's take a look at Pixar's confirmed slate of films to see which project we're most excited for.

When talking about Pixar's films, it's easy to take jabs at the Cars franchise. Critically speaking, the original film was hardly as well-received as its predecessors, while the sequel stands as the company's least-loved film. The series has also spawned a spinoff franchise, Planes, under the stewardship of DisneyToon Studios, which also hasn't been warmly embraced by critics, either.

Despite its lukewarm critical reception, though, the franchise is bigger than you probably think. Kids love it, the two films are breezy entertainment, the merchandising has brought the company billions and even Cars Land at Disney's California Adventure stands as quite an excellently-themed, ever-popular experience.

As such, a third film has always been inevitable, with the most recent bit of news on it being the reveal of a teaser poster at D23 this past August. While the series' existing fans have every reason to be excited, when compared to the other sequels that have been announced or the idea of new concepts by the company, it's hard not to see the film as the lesser of the bunch.
