POTC 4 in 3D - Obviously!

In this gimmick crazy period of blockbuster film-making, it would probably be more newsworthy to report that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, or any other upcoming 2011 big budget movie wasn't actually being shot in 3-D. But alas, this is the unfortunate truth and I think all of us understand this 3-D nonsense is going to be a long ride we all have to endure. Confirmation has come from a Walt Disney press release today that Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, Geoffrey Rush as Capt. Barbosa, Ian McShane as the villainous Blackbeard and Penelope Cruz as his daugther and Sparrow love interst, will be coming atcha in 3-D. Thankfully it will be shot with 3-D camera's (as in Avatar) and not post-tinkered (Clash of the Titans), which means director Rob Marshall's carboard cut-out directing, and unenthused staging will be even more evident. Expected news, etc. But is anyone doing cartwheels at the prospect of the whole affair after Disney's embarassing quality of it's uniquely disgusting Digital 3-D in Alice in Wonderland. Not to mention the last POTC movie was horrid. Shooting begins June 14th, with a plot concerning the search of the mythical fountain of youth. Discuss: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides opens exactly a year from today on May 17th 2011... but despite the cool new additions to the cast, and the letting go of the dead weight (Bloom, Knightley), do we really expect anything good from this?
