5. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 ($850 million)

Nobody doubts that the final part of The Hunger Games series will be massive box office success. However, more than any other film on this list, there's a great deal of contention as to how big that success will be. Here it's pegged at a safe $850 million, but some have predicted the film to do a Harry Potter and have a final entry that bursts through the billion dollar ceiling. Now Mockingjay - Part 2 no doubt improve on the previous installment, and could even become the series' biggest hit, but so far everything's set for it to wallow a good $100 million shy of the big goal. Both Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows - Part 2 and The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King (far and away their franchise's biggest hits) reached their $1 billion plus totals thanks to a high number of repeat viewings, which is something Mockingjay - Part 2 won't be able to deliver, at least to the same level. Splitting the final book in two undid a lot of the work Catching Fire (which did phenomenal numbers) did in giving a young adult property wide appeal, the ponderous tone turning The Hunger Games back into something "for the fans". There are a lot of fans for sure, but some of its mainstream qualities have been lost.
