Predicting The Next 10 Billion Dollar Movies

8. Justice League

Spider Man Billion Dollar

It may seem like a bold claim to make, but November's Justice League has a very real possibility of becoming the first movie in the DC Extended Universe to crack a billion dollars due to a number of factors.

First of all, there is the 'Wonder Woman Effect'. None of the previous three movies in the DCEU managed a 'Fresh' rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but Patty Jenkins' recently-released blockbuster is currently sitting pretty at an impressive 93%, which has given the entire franchise a renewed sense of optimism. Secondly, the success of a female-driven superhero story has opened up a new demographic for the movie and given young women across the globe a new cinematic role model, so look for Gal Gadot's Diana Prince to feature more heavily in the marketing campaign going forward.

Zack Snyder recently left Justice League in the wake of a personal tragedy, with Joss Whedon stepping in for reshoots and post-production. Whedon brings a devoted fanbase with him, and has cache with both the casual and superhero crowd after directing the two highest-grossing comic book movies of all time, which could also entice the anti-DC crowd to part with their cash.

So far, the DCEU has seen its movies open incredibly strong at the box office before dropping off in a matter of weeks but if Justice League can avoid the critical drubbing afforded to most of its predecessors then it has a real shot of earning over a billion, something many saw as a foregone conclusion for Batman v Superman last year.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
