Prepare yourself for the Christmas SPIRIT!

Lionsgate bring some festive fun to Frank Miller's movie, it's now opening on Christmas Day!

Lionsgate have bumped up the adaptation of Will Eisner's classic character The Spirit a few weeks from mid January 2009 to a Christmas Day 2008 release, a tentpole which was once held by Paramount and it's Star Trek reboot. No reason has been given for the change but Variety claim it was made some weeks back when talking to fans at the NY Comic Con.

There's no doubt a Christmas release is stronger than January - usually the slow month of the year. However it will now face stiff competition from two comedies from proven box office stars.... Adam Sander's disney comedy Bedtime Stories (which is being setup as the next Night at the Museum) and Owen Wilson/Jennifer Aniston's rom-com Marley & Me.AICN also speculate that Lionsgate wanted to distance this comic book adaptation from Watchmen, another hard edged and adult comic adaptation.
