Prometheus & 15 Other Movies That Didn't Live Up To The Hype

1. Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace (1999)

Of course; it had to be didn't it. There was no other choice. Raise your hand if you WEREN'T disappointed when you first saw Episode 1 for the first time? Yeah, thought so. After the blistering trailers, the thought of returning to the world that had defined most of our childhood film going experiences, was something akin to actually hearing about the invention of lightsabers. Little did we know what George Lucas had in store for us, waiting in the winds, waiting to ambush us like some pesky Tuskan raiders. Yes, the man who gave us Jedis, Lightsabers, Darth Vader, the Millennium Falcon, and brought a whole new meaning to the word geek, gave unto us Jar Jar frickin' Binks! Yet that would be letting this film off far too eaily, for he is not the only thing to blame. The script is a mess, a sheer cavalcade of clunky dialogue scenes with even clunkier and static direction. The sheer brilliance of the Pod Race nor the three way lightsaber duel were enough to quell our overshadowing disappointment with this film. Lucas would go on to improve with Episodes 2 and 3 but one couldn't help but hear our inner child screaming in sheer pain at the torture that was being undertaken on screen before us.
