Prometheus 2: 10 Lessons It Must Learn In Order To Succeed

7. Plug In The Plot Holes

We've already covered here at What Culture some of the major questions which the sequel needs to answer, and while some of these were deliberately open-ended ideas designed to get the audience wondering, others were basic plot holes which could have been avoided. It's not uncommon for Hollywood movies to be full of enough plot holes to sink a ship, but Prometheus seems to have more than its fair share. Often, these feel like aspects the filmmakers have given up on caring about making sense, more intent on delivering "cinematic moments" than explaining the causes behind them. While audiences are often willing to suspend their disbelief when watching what is ostensibly a piece of entertainment, there's a fine line between pushing credibility to the limit and over-stretching the boundaries of believability. Since Prometheus begins with a lot of questions and ended with even more unanswered questions, at least the sequel is in a position where it can make good on its set up and give the audience some answers. We're not expecting them to come up with a coherent answer to the nature of existence (which is the timeless question the first movie poses) but addressing some of the loose ends would be a nice way to kick things off.
