Prometheus 2: 10 Lessons It Must Learn In Order To Succeed

3. Improve The Pacing

The first act might be a carbon copy of the opening act in Alien but perhaps this is also why it works so well, with moments of tension building up to release that draws the audience in. Unfortunately, this principle is unevenly applied throughout the rest of Prometheus. The final act is where the pacing issues really start to show, with a rushed finale which seems more bothered with cramming in the remaining ideas the filmmakers had and forcing a grand finale into the screenplay than it is with making any real sense. It's a classic cinematic case of over-egging the pudding while throwing in a deus ex machina - the conveniently timed reveal of the giant squid fetus monster which saves Shaw from the engineer - to wrap up the action. Since Prometheus has already established the universe the sequel won't have to spend so much time setting things up, allowing the filmmakers to structure a story which can be moved forward at greater leisure without trying to cram too much in to a short space of time.
