18: Why Guy Pearce?
What was the point in casting Guy Pearce in the film? I can understand for the viral videos where he plays the younger Weyland but unless that younger Weyland is going to make a re-appearance, what was the point in making Guy Pearce wear all that fake make up? Could they not find an older actor to play the part? Making an actor look old by using prosthetics is always difficult, the end result never works. So it's strange they went to all the effort and expense to make Guy Pearce look old when finding an older actor would have been the best thing to do. Also, why was Weyland pretending to be dead? Was it so that the crew don't ask questions about the real reasons behind the mission? It's already been made clear that the crew is not bothered about small details like that and it might also explain why no one seemed shocked to find Weyland on the ship. In any case, Weyland is killed off so quickly, the whole thing seems pointless. What was the point of him being there? Did the dynamic of the film change thanks to him? Why would he spend so much money and travel such a long distance of the off chance he might meet his maker? It was just another ill thought idea that sounded good but no substance behind it to flesh it out.
