4. Why Did They Create Us?

This is a tough one. The answer may well be as simple as the one that Holloway arrogantly provides to David: "because they could...." They considered themselves creators, and so that is what they did... they engineered because they considered it their duty to engineer. Perhaps they had spent so long in the universe that, in the absence of their own answers, they created beings that would consider them gods. Creation filled the voice resulting from their own questions- a true existential paradox! More of this in part 2 exploring the motifs and themes.
