Pros And Cons Of Movie Marketing Regulations

Pro: All Marketing Materials Include Release Dates

If the studios comply with NATO, they won't be allowed to release posters like the one pictured above anymore. Instead of using "This Summer" or "This Fall," studios would have to supply the actual release date for a film on all marketing materials, which include trailers, posters and TV spots.

While this wouldn't be a major development like shorter trailers or the Four Month Rule, but it would still be a nice luxury for movie fans to have. This development would likely benefit the casual ones again, since studios announce release dates online all the time. If studios were forced to do this, everyone would see the release date on a theatrical trailer and be able to mark their calendars.

And most of the time, studios have release dates picked out before the first trailer is released, so it's not like it would be hard to include "June 14" at the end of the clip. This one makes sense.
