Psyche! Matt Reeves Actually Is Directing The Batman After All
But where's the mentions of Ben Affleck?
Despite the rumours that Matt Reeves was out of the running to direct the upcoming solo Batman movie, it seems the end of negotiations wasn't quite as final as once suspected. The Planet Of The Apes director has just been announced as the next Batman director by Warner Bros.
The highly rated director has released a statement confirming his involvement:
“I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen
Reeves will dual his directing responsibilities with a producer credit, because worrying about being spread to thin is only for the likes of Ben Affleck apparently.
Speaking of whom, he's apparently still involved as Bruce Wayne (until we hear something else at least), which is very good news. And perhaps the A-list nature of this hire will convince Affleck to stick around? What's slightly worrying is that neither of the statements released - by Reeves or WB President and Chief Content Officer Tony Emmerich - mention the outgoing director, which might cause some concern:
“We are thrilled to have Matt Reeves taking the helm of Batman, the crown jewel of our DC slate. Matt’s deep roots in genre films and his evolution into an emotional world-building director make him the perfect filmmaker to guide the Dark Knight through this next journey.”

Maybe it's just so certain that it doesn't need reiteration. Right? RIGHT?!
