Quentin Tarantino: Definitive Guide To Homages, Influences And References

Kill Bill Vol 1

3. The Yellow Jump Suit

The Bride's yellow tracksuit is the same one worn by Bruce Lee in the 1978 kung-fu flick Game of Death. Game of Death is famous for having never been completed, as Bruce Lee died during production. Just like The Bride, Lee also dons a helmet and rides a motorcyle at one point in the movie.

2. Fist Of Fury

When The Bride is surrounded by an army of katana-wielding soldiers during the House of Blue Leaves sequence, the choreography, marks and location matches that of the Bruce Lee film Fists of Fury. Just as The Bride lifts her sword, the soldiers back-off and gasp. The same thing occurs when Bruce Lee raises his fists - an arguably more terrifying weapon.

1. Samurai Fiction

Tarantino seems to have based the silhouette fight in the House of Blue Leaves on one from the 1998 movie Samurai Fiction. Whereas Tarantino cast his own silouette fight in black and blue, Samurai Fiction has its characters facing off on a black and red background.
