Ranking: 10 Highest Grossing Movies Of Summer 2017

3. Wonder Woman

Box Office: $800.2 million (#4)

Soaring past most expectations, Wonder Woman has just crossed the $800 million mark, putting it miles ahead of Man of Steel's underwhelming $668 million gross. Cross your fingers for a billion-dollar haul when Wonder Woman 2 rolls around.

Easily one of the most pleasantly surprising movies of the year, Wonder Woman shrugs off the self-consciously morose tone of the other DCEU movies to date and focuses on telling a simpler story, and does it exceedingly well.

Gal Gadot proves the critics wrong with a thoroughly bada** central performance, while Chris Pine arguably matches her with his extremely likeable and compassionate work as Steve Trevor. The entire supporting cast, really, does a grand job propping the movie up even through its duller moments.

The visuals pop, the action is fun, and the tone feels much more akin to a Marvel movie. It's a little too long, there's too much slow-motion and the third act showdown isn't particularly interesting, but compared to the DCEU's last two movies, this is practically a miracle.

Isn't it great what happens when Warner Bros. just lets artists make art?
