Ranking 10 Most Exciting Upcoming Star Wars Performances
9. Lupita Nyong’o – Maz Kanata
Up until recently rumours were flying around that Lupita Nyong’o
hadn’t shot any scenes as former pirate queen Maz Kanata, but thankfully
Nyong’o herself has confirmed she will indeed be returning for The Last Jedi
and set photos from director Rian Johnson seem to suggest so too.
It’s not known how big a part she’ll take just yet, but considering how underused and mysterious her character felt in The Force Awakens here’s hoping we get a bit more insight into the quirky but incredibly powerful (if deleted scenes of her kicking the arse of a squadron of stormtroopers in the last movie are anything to go by) little alien.
At over 1,000 years old, Maz Kanata is one of the oldest beings in the Star Wars universe and has presumably been witnessing sh*it go down from the creation of the Death Star to Kylo Ren turning to the dark side and everything between, so we’re hopeful the brilliant Nyong’o will get to expand on her long and colourful life with her performance in The Last Jedi.
At the very least, we deserve a bit of intel as to how on earth (or Takodana) she came into possession of Luke’s long-lost lightsaber.
