10. Batman Beyond S03 E08 - The Call, Part 2
Batman Beyond is set in a futuristic Gotham City, with Terry McGinnis as the new Batman, and Bruce Wayne serving as his mentor. In this future of the DC Animated Universe, fans have been wondering what happened to the iconic characters of DC’s past. When Superman appeared in season three, still on active duty as the leader of the future Justice League, it was a big event two-part episode. The shocking revelation was that he was the villain of the storyline because the parasitic Starro secretly latched onto the Man of Steel’s chest, so controlled his every move.
This was an underdog tale where the rookie hero faced off against the world’s greatest, including a chase scene where Terry needed to go full speed on the flying Batmobile to get away from the unstoppable god. The Bat won because he was not fighting the man; he was fighting the parasite on him. When he electrified the monster off Clark’s chest, he saved the man attached to it.
Throughout the two-parter, the Justice League questioned Terry's status as a worthy Dark Knight. Yet, when placed in the impossible situation of facing the best, he remained collected and beat the odds.
In the end, Batsy did not need the League’s approval. It was a strong arc, worthy of an appearance from Superman.
