Ranking All The Marvel Cinematic Universe Franchises From Worst To Best
1. Captain America
Movies: Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War
Upcoming: None announced.
It's pretty crazy that a character who ten years ago could easily be dismissed as outdated propaganda is one of the premium film characters, but that's merely testament to Chris Evans' humanising portrayal of Steve Rogers and a run of movies that dissect the morals of its subject, asking just what it is to be a flag-waving patriot.
We're at the point now where Captain America's movies are invariably the standout of their release pack; The First Avenger was the best of the pre-Avengers films, totally standalone yet universally important, while The Winter Soldier modernised the character and brought conspiracy and paranoia with it. Civil War was on another level, a film that brought together all the threads from across the universe while fitting into the trilogy's singular arc. And that's what the series has that others don't: a story that's told entirely within it.
The Captain America Trilogy may have Steve Rodgers' alter ego in the title, but it's really The Fall And Redemption Of Bucky Barnes, with each movie centring on his place in the world and Steve's feelings for him, and making them distinct from Cap's other Avengers appearances.
This is the perfect example of that multi-levelled structure, and based on the success of these films in particular, it's something we're only going to see more of going forward.
