RottenTomatoes Score: 90% (8/10)

Box Office: Budgetary information is unavailable, and the only financials at-hand are a $165,000 gross from the Netherlands. Go figure.

Verdict: Those expecting Lady Macbeth to be just another stodgy period drama should look again, because it's anything but. Florence Pugh gives an intense and unforgettable performance in this searing, sexy psychodrama, which boasts shocking violence amid its sustained white-knuckle tension.

As a directorial debut for William Oldroyd, this is uncommonly restrained work, making excellent use of the sharp visual and aural package to deliver a deliciously sinister bodice-ripper that strays very far from the norm.
