Rotten Tomatoes Score: 92% (7.5/10) Box Office: Made for an economic $5 million, The Gift has grossed an impressive $33.5 million to date, making it yet another stonking success for indie mega-producer Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions label. The Verdict: Another huge surprise this past month came from Joel Edgerton in his debut as director (and he also wrote the movie). While the trailers suggested a relatively generic thriller, the movie was intentionally sold a certain way to then confound audience expectations in the actual movie itself, and it works wonderfully. The less known about the movie before seeing it the better, but needless to say, Edgerton has considerable chops as a filmmaker, Jason Bateman gets to deliver possibly the best performance of his career, and the movie's climax is deliciously, devilishly satisfying. One of the year's best thrillers to date and sure to endure as a cult classic. What did you think of August's movies? Shout them out in the comments!
