12. Sausage Party

Suicide Squad Nine Lives Kubo And The Two Strings
Columbia Pictures

RottenTomatoes Score: 81% (6.8/10)

Box Office: Budgeted at an impressively (and controversially) small $19 million, the adult animated comedy soared massively above initial expectations and has already quadrupled its budget ahead of its international roll-out.

Verdict: If Pixar ever went R-rated, we'd be lucky to get something as clever and hysterically funny as this. Sausage Party is far more than its punny name and relentless profanity suggests: there are also some extremely clever, unexpected musings on the nature of religion and existence that won't be lost on even more casual viewers.

Sure, it's still got a mind-blowingly crazy third act that truly has to be seen to be believed, but Sausage Party's combination of smarts and salaciousness proves there is a sizeable audience for "mature" animated fare.
