Ranking Black Panther's Oscars Chances In Each Category

5. Best Supporting Actor

Black Panther Erik Killmonger
Marvel Studios

Disney have submitted a number of Black Panther's supporting actors here, including Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Sterling K. Brown, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis, but there's only one serious contender.

Michael B. Jordan gives a performance that not only steals the movie, but transcends the comic book genre in a similar vein to Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight or Hugh Jackman in Logan. It's complex, powerful work, that is still being discussed many months after the event, and the changing voter base opens the door further, although again there's plenty of competition.

Chances Of Nomination: 7/10

Chances Of Winning: Timothée Chalamet's turn in Beautiful Boy is the early favourite, while there's still Adam McKay's Backseat to come, which will bring a strong challenge from at least last year's winning Sam Rockwell. If voters really want to recognise Black Panther in a big category, though, then this is one of the more likely. 6/10
