Ranking Every DC Comic Book Movie - From Worst to Best

12. Batman Forever (1995)

Joel Schumacher took over the reins of the Batman franchise and decided to move away from the aesthetic established by Tim Burton in favor of a more brightly-colored and family friendly tone, no doubt at the request of the studio in an effort to generate more income from merchandise. A complete stylistic overhaul for the franchise, Batman Forever does have its moments but is ultimately a louder, campier step backwards for the Caped Crusader. Val Kilmer attempts to portray Bruce Wayne as a tortured soul, but his performance often comes off as bored more than anything else, while Chris O'Donnell and Nicole Kidman suffer from generic characterization. Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey have a contest to see who can chew the most scenery, with the latter faring slightly better given that his manic energy suits the character of the Riddler much better than broad comedy suits the disturbed Two-Face. Although Batman Forever boasts several solid action sequences and earned $336.5m at the box office, it was a disappointing continuation of the franchise.

11. Batman: The Movie (1966)

Batman's first feature-length theatrical outing greatly divides opinion; some view it as a gloriously over-the-top camp classic while others see it as an embarrassing entry on the Caped Crusader's big-screen filmography. So in the interest of fairness, Batman: The Movie finds itself bang in the middle of these rankings. Both unintentionally hilarious and intentionally ludicrous, the movie is perfect as an enjoyable Sunday afternoon distraction. Starting as it means to continue, the first scene features the legendary Shark-Repellent Bat Spray and the television series' signature unconvincing props and effects, with Adam West and Burt Ward gamely playing things straight in amongst a raft of scenery-chewing villains. Filled with memorably awful dialogue, almost every bat-gadget under the sun and several unforgettable scenes, Batman: The Movie is light-hearted entertainment that is cheesy, ridiculous, insane and fun in equal measure.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
