Ranking Every DC Movie Villain From Worst To Best

Thanks in part to her mask - which works as the immediate visual language of evil - Dr Maru is delightfully creepy even before she opens her mouth. She's a secondary villain in the great Indiana Jones tradition, easy to hate but also ever so slightly charismatic in that delicious, perverse way.

There has been some talk about her character representing a toxic ableism - not least in the way Wonder Woman's decision to spare her was played - but the performance is still very admirable. There is vulnerability in there, and a tangible hauntedness that is never quite fully explored, as well as her evil being completely believable.

Her being spared out of pity is a little troubling and it might have been nice for slightly better explanation of her motivations, but she's definitely among the better characters in the film even without that.
