Ranking Every Guillermo Del Toro Film From Worst To Best

2. The Shape Of Water (2017)

Pan's Labyrinth
Fox Searchlight

Del Toro's current film is in theatres now and is an accomplishment more than deserving of the accolades it is receiving.

A film as gorgeously designed, breathtakingly directed and cleverly written as this does not come along often and ultimately shows precisely how powerful a fully-operational del Toro film can be.

The cast is impeccable, with especially strong performances by Sally Hawkins, Richard Jenkins, Michael Shannon and Doug Jones. Jones is the man inside the creature and delivers a jaw-dropping performance capable of eliciting true emotion. It's almost an art form.

The film becomes much more than its bare bones synopsis: it is a religious allegory and a political one that takes a stand amidst the current American culture. It sees del Toro giving a voice to the outcasts, in a film that essentially boils down to the rejects of society experiencing love and experiencing cinema.
