Ranking EVERY James Bond Henchman From Worst To Best
31. Morzeny (From Russia With Love, 1963)
Jack-of-all-trades and middle-ranking SPECTRE goon, Morzeny (Walter Gotell, who'd later go on to play the recurring General Gogol) is initially introduced as director for the training of new recruits on SPECTRE Island. Very much not a scenic spot, the island is where low-level criminals are turned into hardy henchmen.
He’s not afraid of getting his hands dirty, however; the well-worked Morzeny’s duties vary between handling such training and operating as one of Blofeld’s personal executioners of failed SPECTRE members. After presumed years of toiling, Morzeny’s big break finally comes when he is dispatched to bring in company nemesis James Bond once and for all after 007 foils the criminal organisation’s plans yet again.
With the chance to rise to the lofty position of a character who actually gets named onscreen at stake, Morzeny leads a squadron of speedboats in an effort to subdue Bond and gain that long-awaited promotion.
His short-lived ambitions of SPECTRE glory go up in smoke, however, when 007 ignites a barrage of fuel tanks in the water and escapes. Morzeny meets an unceremonious end leaping overboard having been set on fire, likely (as so many henchmen do) cursing the day he met James Bond.
