Ranking Every James Bond Opening Scene From Worst To Best
15. Die Another Day
Despite being one of the worst Bond films of all time, Die Another Day actually has a pretty good opening. The surfing stunt the opens the scene is very respectable, and thankfully its solid cinematography and stunt coordination make up for its atrocious techno score. Colonel Moon's introduction is also memorable as his punching bag torture technique is a fun and intimidating way to introduce a villain.
The hovercraft chase is the real meat of the scene, and it's a solid set piece. Bond's fight against Moon is solid, thanks in part to the villain's awesome flamethrower. Even the ending is solid; North Korean reinforcements arrive and arrest 007, an interesting plot development that could have led to an interesting main story.
Unfortunately, the rest of Die Another Day happened and completely squandered all the potential the pre-title sequence had. The opening of Die Another Day is enjoyable on its own and easily the best part of Die Another Day, but the second you hear Madonna start running.
