Ranking Every Jim Carrey Movie Worst To Best

29. High Strung (1992)

Carrey appears as Death himself at the tail-end of this 1991 indie comedy, though it wasn't until his 1994 breakout that audiences and distributors paid the film much mind, now desperate to get their hands on anything featuring the actor.

But Carrey is in this for a mere cup of coffee, and only performed the part as a favour to his pal Steve Oedekerk, who serves as co-writer-star here.

Carrey reportedly insisted his name not be used in marketing materials, though once it was re-issued on VHS in the mid '90s, of course that stipulation was ignored.

"Jim Carrey is even better than he was in Ace Ventura!," a VHS pull quote claims, and while the film itself actually isn't bad, it's not that easy to look past the icky, manipulative marketing of Carrey's role.

28. Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995)

Released barely 18 months after Ace Ventura hit screens, When Nature Calls is an unsurprisingly messy and unvarnished vehicle for Carrey's talents, but at least he can't be accused of just phoning things in.

If nothing else, When Nature Calls gave us two legendary scenes - a Cliffhanger parody co-starring a raccoon, and the sequence where Ace extricates himself from the back passage of a mechanical rhino.

It's more annoying and less funny than the original, but not without its intermittent pleasures.
