Ranking Every John Carpenter Theme Worst To Best
5. Halloween II (1981) With Alan Howarth
It's kind of hard to justify this tune being an individual contender to the list, as it is so darn close to the original. The fact is, a cool tune is a cool tune, and the Halloween II theme was a good reworking. That's right, Halloween II! There was Halloween and then, a few years later, they made a sequel. Who'd have thought?
At the time, as damn frigging impossible as it is to imagine now, a sequel to Halloween was a fairly interesting concept, and credit to John Carpenter for returning to the franchise, if just to soup-up his original theme in true sequel fashion. His buddy, Alan Howarth helped him do it.
Everything in this 2.0 version is more grandiose. Many could argue that the added keyboards, sound effects and heightened pulse botched the ominous potency of the original. However, if anybody possessed the creative licence to do such a thing, it was the genius behind its predecessor. Over the top? Perhaps. But it is still distinctly Halloween, which makes it distinctly awesome.
