Ranking Every John Carpenter Theme Worst To Best

12. Village Of The Damned (1995)

This was right in Carpenter's ball park, what with him being a scary music connoisseur and all. Out of all of his compositions, this could also be argued as the most orchestral. The Village of the Damned theme is a nice blend of sinister and all-out. Ultimately, it's a game of two musical halves. A forbearing military tempo transforms this otherwise steady piece into something of an epic spectacle.

In both sections, it reflects the narrative of the film nicely. The whole structure of Village of the Damned is deceptively subtle. The ominous opening events of the movie gradually coalesce into a town-sized child-sanctioned invasion and both these plot lines are captivated in the music. Carpenter knew this movie through and through, and injected a fair wallop of that passion into his composition.

Though still not the most memorable, it's an impressive and solid piece of music, and a fantasy horror anthem in its own right. You'd even be forgiven for detecting a similarity to the Game of Thrones theme in this one.
